In the hustle and bustle of our ever-demanding world, where productivity and outward success seem to reign supreme, a quiet revolution is brewing – the purposeful pause.

It’s been over a year since I last shared my thoughts through blogs, and today, I want to share the significance of this silence.

I found myself caught in the whirlwind of constant goal chasing – pressure to consistently post on social media to “be seen” and “stay relevant,” constantly thinking about how to promote this class or that retreat, spending more time on the business side of things instead of on the joy of creativity.

I desperately needed to stop and breathe. So, contrary to all the prevalent business advice, I chose to “go dark” and embarked on a journey of purposeful pausing, redirecting my energy inward to nurture my inner world.

This deliberate pause has been a lifeline, a crucial step in preventing burnout while protecting the authenticity of my creative voice.

In this space of allowing, I’ve embraced life’s natural rhythm. Some days are filled with inspiration, while others go at a more leisurely pace (hello, couch potato!) – and you know what? It’s all okay.

This practice of allowing has fostered a profound trust in the alignment of my life’s unique path, while also appreciating that my flow may diverge from others. Remember, pausing is not quitting.

As I gradually re-emerge with the fall, I carry forward a newfound appreciation for the nurturing embrace of stillness and self-reflection. This pause has not only allowed me to be present with myself and others but has also gifted me with time to reignite my creative dreams and aspirations.

⭐️ In February/March I attended a charcoal drawing class where I learned how to draw facial features from casts, challenging myself to learn the proper techniques under the guidance of a classically trained, professional artist. (I’m learning I don’t love following rules.)

⭐️ I joined Zouk Algorhythm and began teaching Brazilian Zouk dancing in April, an experience that consistently reminds me why I love this dance and sharing it with others.

⭐️ I attended a 3-day sculpting workshop with Lisa Clague in June where I created a head and headdress bust that I’m extremely proud of. (Check it out!)

⭐️ I’ve been making numerous portraits, both for personal fulfillment and commissioned work. With each completed portrait, I find myself in astonishment because it was an art style I never thought I could do, proving that skills can, indeed, be learned.

⭐️ I’m exploring new horizons by taking classes on painting pastel landscapes, another medium that makes me TRUST THE PROCESS as I push through self-doubt. (I tell ya, the artist’s journey can be a rough one for self-esteem!)

These experiences have enriched my life and fueled my creative spirit. I’m eager to share the insights and creative plans that have blossomed from this contemplative period. (Hint: it involves more portrait making.) Stay tuned!

May we all continue to honor the power of our purposeful pauses, recognizing that the path to inner alignment knows no timeline.

I invite you to reflect on your own life. Are you nearly running on empty and would benefit from a purposeful pause? Take a moment to breathe and listen to your inner world. After all, sometimes the most profound growth happens within the silence.
