If you’re like me, you’ve probably wondered how to fit everything you want to do into one day.
Have you heard of habit stacking? It’s something I recently started trying out, and it feels pretty good!
Let me tell you more about it and how I’ve incorporated it into my life.
How It Works
Habit stacking takes an existing habit that you’re already doing and adds on something else you want to do more of, or begin doing altogether.
For example, I brush my teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day (an established habit). I want to workout more (new habit). Let’s pair those two habits together. Instead of only focusing on brushing my teeth, I now do squats at the same time. This equals 60+ squats every day.
I’ve also paired scrolling through social media with side-lying hip abduction. I do 200 reps on each side before I even get out of bed in the morning. My hips have been feeling so much better too.
Another small change to try is making your goals more accessible – literally. I recently brought my hand weights into my office to do quick sets when I need a break (or even when I happen to walk by), and it’s a game-changer. It’s been challenging for me to set aside 30-45 minutes to workout each day, but short, focused workouts during the day are no problem. Smarter, not harder my friend!
Incorporating this practice into your daily routine allows you to quickly build momentum towards achieving your goals without having to completely overhaul your lifestyle or schedule. In addition, it helps keep your motivation high by making small changes over time rather than expecting yourself to immediately jump into something new full force.
Pairing new habits with existing ones also make them easier to remember because they’re associated with something else that’s already part of your daily routine – making them easier to adopt over time as well.
With habit stacking, you can make the most out of your precious time without feeling overwhelmed or stressed out about fitting everything in.
