I’m thrilled to announce my next art retreat: 10 days of portrait drawing in the Perigord region of France, September 9-18, 2027.
This has been months in the making, and I can’t wait to share why this particular trip means so much to me, and what you can expect if you join.
Where We’re Going
Perigord is one of the most beautiful, historic corners of France: medieval villages, riverside towns, dramatic limestone cliffs, and centuries-old chateaus around every bend. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and really look, which happens to be exactly what portrait drawing asks of you too.
What You’ll Learn
This retreat is built around a simple but powerful process. We start with an intuitive, loose foundation, then slowly refine it into a finished piece, whether that’s a portrait, a still life, or another subject entirely. Along the way, you’ll learn to read light and shadow, use a grid for accurate proportion, and build an image step by step.
You don’t need years of experience. Every retreat I’ve led has welcomed a full range, from people who haven’t picked up a pencil since high school to working artists. The structure meets you exactly where you are.
What A Day Looks Like
Mornings are unhurried: coffee, easels, and the quiet focus of working under natural light. Afternoons open up into exploration, think medieval streets, historic sites, and countryside views. Evenings are long dinners, good conversation, and time to simply be present in a beautiful place.
I’ll be sharing a full day-by-day itinerary closer to the retreat, but the short version is this: it’s not a vacation where you happen to paint. It’s a creative immersion where you happen to also fall in love with a new place.
