T-Shirts are one of my favorite materials to work with and they are readily available at thrift stores, garage sales, and from friends, so finding secondhand materials should not be a problem for you. They come in such a wide variety of colors, designs, and patterns, and are such a forgiving material to work with.

The slouch hat is unisex, and can be made for both men, women, and children too! This tutorial provides instruction on how to make a hat for an average-sized female head, but it you can easily modify it for different sizes. T-shirts provide a good amount of stretch too, so one size can fit many different people.

In this pattern you’ll learn:
– How to cut, assemble and sew a hat & headband
– How to make a t-shirt flower to add for adornment

Materials needed:
– XL cotton t-shirt
– Sewing machine & Serger (both are recommended, but the slouch hat can be made with a sewing machine only)
– Cutting tools (i.e. Scissors/Rotary Cutter, Cutting Mat)
– Straight pins
– Needle & thread
– Iron
