Common Questions
I’ve never drawn before. Will I be lost?
Not at all! We’ll start with the basics. Many students are beginners.
I already draw a little. Will this still help me?
Absolutely. You’ll refine your technique and leave with new insights.
I like drawing, but faces aren’t really “my thing.” Will this workshop still be a good fit?
Absolutely! Even if you usually sketch objects, landscapes, or abstract work, learning to draw faces will strengthen your overall drawing skills. Portraits challenge your eye for proportion, shading, and capturing subtle details – skills that transfer into any subject you choose to draw. Plus, you may discover that faces are far less intimidating (and a lot more fun) than you expected once you learn a step-by-step approach.
What if I already have some experience drawing portraits?
Perfect. You’ll get the chance to refine your technique and receive individualized feedback. Even if you’ve drawn faces before, this workshop will give you fresh insights into proportions, shading, and capturing likeness.
What happens if I can’t attend at the last minute?
Life happens! While workshop fees are non-refundable, you’re welcome to transfer your spot to a friend. Just let me know, and we’ll make sure they feel right at home.
Another option is to put your class fee towards a private lesson ($80/hr).
I attended your last class - will there be new content?
Yes! This class will contain new exercises and reference materials. You’ll also be adding a new medium to work with (pan pastels), which will allow for a wider range of values (lights and darks). While the previous class is not a pre-requisite, this class will build off of the techniques you learned last time.
That being said, if you didn’t attend the previous class, you’re still able to jump right into this one!

She explained each technique clearly and with so much patience, and I was amazed at how much I learned in such a short time. I actually created a sketch I’m really proud of — something I didn’t think I could do before this class! I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to discover their creative side.
